Third Rock from the Sun (aka 3rd Rock) is the name of a US sitcom that aired for six seasons between 1996 and 2002 - a total of 139 episodes.
While sometimes referred to as 'the overlooked comedy of the 90's', the show was in fact critically acclaimed and achieved quite respectable viewing figures.
It was also the winner of numerous awards with actor John Lithgow in particular singled out for accolades. He was three time winner of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and was nominated for the same award for each of the show's six seasons.

The storylines and plot centred on the experiences of an expeditionary group of alien beings, who have come to earth to study human ways. In order to 'blend in' they decide to pose as an 'ordinary' human family living among the inhabitants of Rutherford, Ohio - a fictional location.
